That quick trip away 🌲 Fly to Europe🗼 One week in Mexico🌴 Learn to fly better with WestJet.
The points cover the fare. The companion voucher covers the second seat. Here’s how far it goes.
Two hours of flying for a completely different kind of weekend🌲 Mountains and Stampede country if you land in Calgary. River trails and the Fringe Festival if you land in Edmonton.
Annual earn at your spend level: ~52,200 pts/yr · 26,000 pts needed
The average World Elite companion saves ~$480 off the second ticket (WestJet 2024 data). The advantage widens on international routes, where the $399 fixed cost leaves the most spread.
A week in Europe on your own. 🗼 London for the markets, the museums, and the pub on the corner. Amsterdam for canals and a city you can navigate entirely by bike. Frankfurt for the old town and easy day trips into the Rhine valley.
Both cards use 90,000 pts total for this trip — the 30% exchange lets more points cover taxes instead of fare. The 30% discount code has a 60–90 day booking expiry once issued. Annual earn: ~52,200 pts/yr
A week in Mexico. 🌴 Good food everywhere you turn. Colonial towns, Pacific beaches, or Caribbean water depending on where you land. The kind of trip that makes the flight home feel too soon.
Companion vouchers cannot be used directly on WestJet Vacations packages — the $200 vacation credit exchange is the correct path and is exclusive to the World Elite card. Package pricing is estimated; verify at westjet.com. Annual earn: ~52,200 pts/yr · 135,000 pts needed

What is your companion fare worth?
The companion voucher has a fixed cost. Its value depends entirely on which route you use it on. And which card you hold changes both the cost and the routes available. Here’s how the math compares across three routes.
| Route | Market fare | Base Mastercard $199 Canada/U.S. only |
World Elite $119/$219 Canada/U.S. (eco/premium) · $399/$499 international |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🌲 YVR ↔ Calgary (return, Econo) | ~$260 | $199 + taxes ~$61 saved |
$119 + taxes ~$141 saved |
| 🏝️ YVR ↔ Puerto Vallarta (return) | ~$700 | Not applicable (international) |
$399 + taxes ~$301 saved |
| 🗼 YVR ↔ London (return, Econo) | ~$900 | Not applicable (international) |
$399 + taxes ~$501 saved |
| 🗼 YVR ↔ London (peak season) | ~$1,200 | Not applicable (international) |
$399 + taxes ~$801 saved |
| WestJet average — 2024 | — | ~$61 est. avg (domestic routes only) |
$480/use avg |
The base Mastercard companion is locked to Canada and continental U.S., where market fares are lowest. At $199, the voucher price often barely beats the cash fare. The World Elite voucher works anywhere WestJet flies: $119 on Canada/U.S. routes, $399 on international ones. At $399 against a $700 PVR fare or a $1,200 peak London fare, the savings are substantial. The base card can’t touch those routes at all. The same annual perk delivers dramatically different value depending on which card issues it.
