The voucher value, by route and by card

The companion voucher has a fixed cost. Its value depends entirely on which route you use it on. And which card you hold changes both the cost and the routes available. Here’s how the math compares across three routes.

WestJet average — 2024 ~$61 est. avg
(domestic routes only)
$480/use avg

The base Mastercard companion is locked to Canada and continental U.S., where market fares are lowest. At $199, the voucher price often barely beats the cash fare. The World Elite voucher works anywhere WestJet flies: $119 on Canada/U.S. routes, $399 on international ones. At $399 against a $700 PVR fare or a $1,200 peak London fare, the savings are substantial. The base card can’t touch those routes at all. The same annual perk delivers dramatically different value depending on which card issues it.
