What your monthly spend earns

Monthly spend $2,500
Category Monthly spend Rate Monthly pts
All qualifying purchases $2,500 1.25x 3,125 pts / mo

37,500 pts / year (~$375 in Avion portal travel, -$24 net of $399 fee). ~1.25% effective return. See the breakeven calculator for whether the $279 incremental fee pays off at your spend level.

Good fit if

  • You use airport lounges regularly. Six complimentary Dragon Pass visits per year cover roughly $180–$240 in lounge access, which is the primary way this card offsets its fee over the standard Infinite.
  • You want a flat 1.25x on all spending without tracking categories, and carry high enough overall spend that the incremental earn matters.
  • You want Avion transfer access with a larger welcome bonus — the Privilege typically opens with roughly 60,000 points, ~$600 at portal value or more via the right partner transfer.

Less useful if

  • You don't use airport lounges. Without that benefit, the earn-rate difference alone rarely covers the $279 incremental fee — the breakeven on pure earn is very high.
  • Your income is below $200K personal or household. The Privilege has the highest income threshold of the RBC Avion lineup; the standard Avion Visa Infinite requires $60K personal.
  • You travel internationally often and want a card that rewards international spending — the earn rate on all purchases here is flat, with no bonus for foreign spend.
