Earn rates

The Infinite Privilege earns at three rates. Travel booked through the CIBC Rewards Centre earns 3 Aventura Points per dollar; dining, entertainment, transportation, gas stations, EV charging and grocery stores earn 2; everything else earns 1.25. It is the only Aventura card with an elevated base rate and the only one that bonuses dining and transit.

Spending category Earn rate Points per $100 spent
Travel via CIBC Rewards Centre 3x Aventura 300 pts
Dining and entertainment 2x Aventura 200 pts
Transportation 2x Aventura 200 pts
Gas and EV charging 2x Aventura 200 pts
Grocery stores 2x Aventura 200 pts
Everything else 1.25x Aventura 125 pts

Aventura Points are worth about 1¢ each on travel booked through the CIBC Rewards Centre. The Aventura Airline Rewards Chart prices flights in fixed point bands with a maximum ticket price per band, so a fare near the top of its band returns more; merchandise and statement credits return less. Points do not expire while the account is open.

What the earn math looks like

A cardholder spending $2,500 per month, split across typical categories:

Category Monthly spend Rate Monthly points
Groceries $600 2x 1,200 pts
Dining and entertainment $400 2x 800 pts
Gas and transit $300 2x 600 pts
All other spending $1,200 1.25x 1,500 pts
Total $2,500 4,100 pts / mo

49,200 Aventura Points per year from everyday spending at this mix, worth about $492 in Rewards Centre travel at 1¢ per point. Add the $200 travel credit and the card returns about $692 against a $499 fee before travel booked at 3x, lounge visits or the welcome offer. That is a comfortable margin for a household with this spending; it is a thin one below about $1,500 a month, which is the honest floor for holding a $499 card on earn alone.

Good fit if

  • You spend heavily on dining, transit, gas and groceries and want one card that bonuses all of them
  • You take a few flights a year and will use six lounge visits and the $200 travel credit
  • You bank at CIBC, meet the $150,000 income bar and want any-airline redemptions rather than an Aeroplan account

Not sure this is the card for how you travel? Book a free conversation, or see membership plans for ongoing help.

Less useful if

  • You want lounge access without a visit cap or a currency that transfers to airlines; premium Aeroplan or Amex cards do both
  • Your monthly spend is under about $1,500, where the earn does not clear the $499 fee even with the credit
  • You mainly want the 2x / 1.5x everyday earn: the Aventura Visa Infinite gets most of it for $139
