How these scores work
Every fit score is computed from this site's card data by a fixed formula, so it can be reproduced. Four weighted components add up to 100: the card's Air Canada earn rate (45), its welcome bonus value (20), its annual fee (20), and how easy it is to qualify for (15). Because all of these cards earn the same currency, earn is converted to an effective return using a single Aeroplan value of 1.5¢ per point, so a 3x card and a 1.5x card sit on the same scale. Air Canada spend is used as the common yardstick since it is the category every Aeroplan card bonuses. Where a welcome offer is variable or unpublished, that component is scored neutral, and the annual fee component uses the listed fee before any account credits or rebates. Click any score to open its full breakdown. Scores compare cards within a tier, not across them: a $599 lounge card and an $89 starter card are measured against different ideals, so a 37 in the premium table is not worse than a 63 in the mid-tier table.

Run a business? See the best Aeroplan business cards
The TD, CIBC, and Amex Aeroplan business cards scored on the same scale, with the welcome bonus and fee rebate that separate them.
Lounge access and the companion pass
The three premium cards score within two points of each other on earn and fee, so the real split is what they include beyond points. The Amex Aeroplan Reserve gives unlimited Maple Leaf Lounge access whenever you fly Air Canada, plus a Priority Pass for non-Air-Canada lounges, and it asks for no minimum income. The TD and CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege cards also include unlimited Maple Leaf Lounge access with a guest, but they gate it behind a $150,000 income requirement. If you can clear that bar, the choice between TD and CIBC comes down to the companion pass and fee rebate, not the points.
Both Visa Infinite Privilege cards carry an annual companion pass: a round-trip companion fare from a set base price plus taxes once you hit an annual spend threshold. CIBC layers on a Smart Plus rebate that can cut the $599 fee to roughly $460 if you hold the chequing account. The Reserve has no companion pass, but its lounge access is the most generous and the most accessible, which is why it leads the premium tier here.

Common questions
What is the best Aeroplan credit card in Canada?
It depends on how often you fly. For occasional Air Canada flyers, the American Express Aeroplan Card tops our mid-tier ranking: 2x Aeroplan on Air Canada, 1.5x on dining, a free checked bag, and no income requirement, for $120. For frequent flyers who want lounge access, the American Express Aeroplan Reserve leads the premium tier with unlimited Maple Leaf Lounge access and 3x on Air Canada, for $599. Business owners are ranked separately in our best Aeroplan business credit card guide above.
Which Aeroplan card has no income requirement?
The American Express Aeroplan Card and American Express Aeroplan Reserve have no published minimum personal income requirement, unlike the TD and CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite cards, which require $60,000, and their Visa Infinite Privilege versions, which require $150,000. Among personal cards the TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum also carries no stated minimum and is the lowest-fee entry point at $89.
Is the Amex Aeroplan Reserve worth the $599 annual fee?
If you fly Air Canada several times a year, the unlimited Maple Leaf Lounge access alone can justify the fee, since single lounge passes run roughly $50 each. The Reserve also includes a Priority Pass, 3x Aeroplan on Air Canada, and no income requirement. If you fly only once or twice a year, a mid-tier card such as the Amex Aeroplan Card at $120 is the better value.
