What your monthly spend earns

Monthly spend $2,500
Category Monthly spend Rate Monthly pts
Groceries, dining, gas, drugstore & travel $1,500 5x 7,500
All other spending $1,000 1x 1,000
Total $2,500 8,500 pts / mo

102,000 pts / year (~$680 in travel). After the $599 fee and $200 lifestyle credit, net value ~$281. The lifestyle credit, lounge passes, and NEXUS credit close much of the gap for frequent travellers. See when the fee pays off →

Good fit if

  • You spend heavily enough in the 5x categories that the earn gap over the base eclipse, combined with the extra $150 in lifestyle credit and six lounge passes, justifies the $479 fee difference.
  • You travel frequently and use airport lounges. Six complimentary passes per year at major international airports is a meaningful benefit for anyone who travels more than a few times annually.
  • You meet the $150,000 personal income threshold and want a premium card with concierge and Visa Infinite Privilege event access.

Less useful if

  • Your monthly spend doesn’t consistently saturate the 5x categories. The base eclipse earns identically on those categories for $479 less per year — the breakeven requires meaningful volume.
  • You don’t use airport lounges. Six lounge passes add real value only if you actually travel through airports that have them.
  • You don’t meet the $150,000 personal or $200,000 household income requirement for this card.
